This is very basic SEO information and the reality is SEO can be very complex and
time consuming depending on the level of exposure you require. As a Small to Medium
Enterprise SEO can grow with you and there is no need to jump in at the deep end,
SEO should be affordable for your business and be relevant to your stage of growth.
What results can you expect when carrying out a SEO campaign for the first time as
directed or implemented by an SEO specialist?
This can depend on how old your website is, if using a new domain name for the first
time that may only be a matter of weeks old, the following is an example of what
may happen.
4 weeks:
Google & other search engines will visit the site and begin to index it in their
search engine results. Your website starts to be found in the search engines for
some terms, normally the company name and domain name.
8 - 16 weeks:
The search engines will now be visiting regularly, as tracked in your analytics.
Your whole site is crawled and in most results. If you look for product names, company
name and some of your key phrases your website should be found.
Months 5 – 7:
Your website should be found for more and more search terms using your keywords.
These can be tracked in Google analytics and your website optimised further if keyword
analysis shows the results to be beneficial.
Months 8 +:
At this stage your SEO campaign should be reaching its peak, it is now that you should
look further to implement Search Engine Marketing, Social Media Optimisation and
further SEO implementation should commence.
SEO should be implemented in stages, push too hard and your website may peak too
soon causing Search Engines to become uninterested in your efforts and in some cases,
treating your website as spam.

“How important is SEO and why do I need it for my website?”
Search Engine Optimisation or SEO is extremely important for your website, particularly if you are looking for online customers to seek out your product or services. Some web design companies will build you a wonderful website with bells and whistles, but without even basic SEO how will your website be found on search engines such as Google, MSN and Yahoo? Many companies and individuals do not realise that building a website is only the beginning of your online marketing process and presence. The chances are you have reached this page submitting a phrase to a search engine, which brought you either directly or via another page. Proof SEO, when carried out properly, works.
Stage One
You have you're beautifully designed all singing and dancing website now what happens? First off your website copy, the text contained in your website needs to be correct. A website should of course always be built with the users and your customers in mind, not search engines. But does your copy add value to your business? Would you want to buy the product and service you have on offer based on your text and information contained in your pages? Is it informative? Do you give your reader an opportunity to sign up to a regular newsletter or special offer promotions? Is there a section of your website that is updated regularly that your readers will want to book mark and come back to visit your website?
Stage Two
Keywords and Description. What keywords do you think your users would type in to find your website on Google, MSN or Yahoo? You may be surprised to discover what is obvious to you is not always what potential buyers type into a search engine to find you. Keyword research is one of our specialities and we can assist you with reports for DIY SEO or implement changes for you. See SEO Packages or SEO - DIY Products for more information.
Stage Three
Linking. First check your links in your website using relevant terms from the keywords you have selected. Find competitor websites and additional relevant sites to link your website to and place a link from your website on an appropriate page. Contact the webmaster of the website you wish to link to and inform them you have placed a link to their website and you are requesting a link back, using your relevant keywords. You can learn more about this on SEO packages and SEO - DIY Products.
Stage Four
Make sure you have a good analytics code installed on your website (we always use Google Analytics), this way you can track visitors to your website and fine tune your pages if you are not getting the results you expected. Finally you are now ready to submit your site to Search Engines. It may take up to 12 weeks for your website to be ranked in Google and six - eight months for any SEO implementation to take effect depending on the scale of optimisation and your competition. Meanwhile Pay Per Click campaigns can be just as rewarding, you can read more about these on our SEM and Pay Per Click pages.
